Simply Brands Sustainable Development Goals News

At Simply Brands, we are proud to be working towards the UN Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The 17 goals are for governments, businesses and communities to have a united effort for the good of the planet, people and the future. By aligning our ethics with these goals, we’re able to grow Simply Brands sustainably, confidently and collaboratively. And so, as we deep-dive into our growth over the coming months, we’ll be sharing news from our industry and what that means for businesses, like ours, who are also keen to align for the UN SDGs.

This month, we’re taking a look at Type-C Technology, why Simply Power stands out as a true innovator in this domain and why should it be your top choice for all Type-C technology!

Type-C USB is a type of computer interface that connects devices like mobile phones, tablets, laptops and more. It’s incredibly fast, reliable and can connect with various protocols. From the early days of USB connection, the USB Type C connection is much smaller, which is why it’s now fitted to so many devices. Devices are sleeker, and slimmer and require a discreet, small connection port. The USB-C provides just that, and it’s reversible, so works with any orientation. The power delivery is also incredible, meaning devices charge and share information faster, making them highly efficient.

By the end of 2024, USB-Type C is set to become the EU’s common charger. This is set to revolutionise charging in the home with the need for one cable and will massively reduce waste and plastic pollution as the same charger can be used for multiple devices. As a company that prioritises sustainability in our decision-making, the reduction and elimination of plastic have been our topmost priority.  Gone are the days of tangled cables and searching for the right lead. With your USB-Type C, you can have one charger for every device; perfect for travelling too.

In addition to this, Apple confirmed the new iPhone 15 will also use a UCB-C Cable, enabling Apple fans to continue to use the existing USB-C-enabled iPhones and iPad chargers they’ve already got to hand… no more additional spending and additional waste! This news, which came out earlier this year is monumental for the technology industry as such a huge brand makes that switch. When trendsetters and global brands shift their focus like this, others will follow. This means other brands in the industry need to also shift their focus to a more sustainable, powerful solution, like our Simply Power Sustainable Edition leads. This also makes for a better marketplace for the consumer as leads will be universal, making for a better, more eco-friendly purchasing decision and less waste within the home.

This shift in focus in particular, when it comes to home technology and the need to reduce waste, has caught the attention of the Simply Brands team and our Simply Power range, particularly as we hope to home in on the UN SDGs.

There are two UN Sustainable Development Goals that we are keen to work hard on in the coming years. The first is Goal 12 is all about responsible consumption and production. For this, we’re working hard to reduce the plastic in our packaging as well as the products themselves. Using sustainable, durable, high-quality materials that are of great value is a tricky balance, but we know with research and a dedication to product development, we can achieve just that. Goal 12 is all about Life Below Water. This means protecting our seas, reducing sea-bound plastic waste and putting the health of our waters at the forefront of our minds during production. One of the big ways we’ve focused on this goal is by developing our Sustainable Edition leads. The high-quality braiding for these leads is made from recycled plastic and the Kraft box packaging uses zero plastic since it's made from 100% biodegradable paper. This product is also vegan-friendly with no animal-related elements involved in the Eco braided cable leads’ manufacture.
